The study focuses on information gathered during a 25-year project on heart disease risk within families. It looked specifically at information from nearly 15-hundred healthy siblings of people who had heart issues before the age of 60... Brothers and sisters of people with early-onset cardiac disease are twice as likely to develop it themselves.


Along with health evaluations, the participants filled out questionnaires about their mood, anxiety level, energy level and overall life satisfaction.


When all the data was analyzed, positive well-being was associated with a one-third reduction in coronary events. A follow-up study validated these findings.


While being up-beat appears to have heart healthy benefits, be warned, the lead researcher cautions that cheerful personalities are likely part of the temperament we are born with, not something we can easily change.
