VA Hospital Scandal

The growing VA hospital scandal is now receiving more attention from Washington.

Currently, the VA Secretary does not have the authority to fire employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs. But the House will vote today on a bill that will give the VA Secretary the ability to terminate about 450 of the 300 thousand plus employees who work there.

According to CNN, veterans have been seeing delays in healthcare at VA hospitals across the nation. And many of the veterans died while waiting for healthcare.

But the way patients were wait-listed at the Phoenix VA hospital is where the situation has received the most attention.

Phoenix VA hospital employees intentionally kept patients "off the books" until their wait time was short enough to be reported. These records that were "off the books" were then added to a secret file until they were able to schedule an appointment within the approved amount of time. The VA requires treatment usually within 14 to 30 days.
