On February 13th at 6:30PM (doors open at 6:00PM), the Forestbrook Middle School Gymnasium will be the setting where our own Forestbrook Superstars will take on the undefeated Harlem Superstars Basketball Team. Our Forestbrook Superstars team will feature local celebrities NFL Quarterback Tyler Thigpen and Coach David Bennett from Socastee High School (formerly with Coastal Carolina University) along with a group of dedicated faculty from Forestbrook Middle School, Socastee Elementary and Socastee High School. The Harlem Superstars team is composed of specially chosen ex-collegiate and professional players who are talented, well-known, well-trained and who excel in comedy basketball at its finest. They focus on audience participation and will have a half time show where several dozen spectators will be selected from the crowd to join in. The team will also make itself available for photos and autographs after the game. Information about the Harlem Superstars can be found at their website www.harlemsuperstars.com
This event is being sponsored by the Forestbrook Middle School PTO in order to raise money for a portable computer cart system that enables laptop/tablet style computers to be brought directly into any classroom at the school. This enables teachers the ability to use computers to enhance learning by allowing students access to various resources that they would not normally have at their disposal in a traditional classroom setting. The students are able to use these portable computers for interactive assignments, various multimedia projects, online research and standardized test prep. A computer cart consists of about 30 laptop/tablet style computers and charging system which allows each student in a classroom to have individual access to a computer simultaneously. Forestbrook Middle School currently has two of these carts which are shared throughout the school but our goal is to have a cart dedicated to each core subject - math, ELA, Science and Social Studies. The cost of one of these computer carts is approximately $30,000 and is not a part of the usual school budget. The PTO has raised almost $20,000 this year to put towards the purchase of one of these carts but obviously we still have a way to go.
We would like to invite the community to come join us for this fun and entertaining event that will help support education in our school. Tickets are only $7 per person presale and $8 at the door if any are left. We only have a seating capacity of 800 and tickets will go fast as word spreads. Presale tickets can be purchased at the Forestbrook Middle School Office with cash or a check made out the the FMS PTO. Concessions and souvenirs will be available at the game as well.
